SNGPL rejects meter readers’ demands 2012 in Dawn News

LAHORE –Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited Board of Directors have rejected the demand of contract meter readers to make them permanent employees and asked them to work according to the terms and conditions of their service.

According to an official statement issued after the meeting on Monday the SNGPL BoDs appreciated the steps taken by the SNGPL administration for the welfare of the employees.

Meter readers and daily wagers from different cities seeking regularisation of their services, had been protesting against the SNGPL management and federal government. Some days ago they had also besieged the Company’s head office when ‘during the protest’ one of their colleagues from Mianchannu lost his life due to cardiac arrest. The SNGPL had stated that the protestor had died in the hospital due to heart failure, while the workers claimed that their colleague lost his life due to rigidity of the SNGPL management towards addressing their fair demands.

“If the government can regularise teachers and PIA and Pakistan Railways employees, then why not us?” they had been demanding.
